Since its conception, Maraire Enterprises has always been deep rooted in the underground hip-hop scene. In fact, our first official Maraire Enterprises release was C.A.V.E' (Christ Anointed Verbal Evangelist); an underground hip-hop group out of Seattle that sold thousands of records independently. Our hip-hop division has always been on the cutting edge when it comes to its artist. In 2000 we released a compilation of northwest underground legends including E-Dawg, Boom Bap Project, The Ghetto Children and many more. Then, in 2001 we released Album of the Year, Boy Wonder's solo project.
Our hip-hop division is committed to signing and releasing artist that believe in the original five elements of hip-hop. As always, we want our acts to participate in the culture that they write about. So we do our best to find artist that do not glamorize images that influence the youth today to act out in negative ways. At the same time we feel that we want cats that have been threw the trials and tribulations that the original people who created and live the hip-hop culture can relate to.
So as the music business changes we at Maraire Enterprises want to be able to adapt to these changes. We commit our selves to marketing and promoting our acts on a grass roots level; making sure that we expose our artists regionally so that we can create a personal relationship with the people. The fans that purchase our music generally support other acts on the label, which is a goal of ours that we try to sustain. We also feel that one of the biggest values of our artists is the live show. We feel that live shows are the best way to create a relationship with fans. Our A&R department does a great job of developing & teaching our artists how to perform.
Overall hip-hop is as much a part of Maraire Enterprises as it is of the legendary Def-Jam label created by Russell Simons. We were all blessed to witness the days of 2-Pac and the Notorious B.I.G. (Biggie Smalls) while they were in their prime. We want to do our best to continue hip-hop like they did. We try to do this by always looking for new and innovative acts that are committed to rapping for the love of it, not for the “bling”. We believe that MC's are rare today and try to do our best to find them and give them the resources needed to be successful in the music business today. WE LOVE HIP-HOP!
